Profile: Marguerite from Affordable Bridal & Bomboniere

As part of a new feature on The Bride's Diary Blog, we will be introducing you to individuals who work in the wedding industry... giving you an insight into who they are and why they love weddings!

This week we have been chatting with Marguerite from Affordable Bridal & Bomboniere,  a great "one-stop" bridal shop located in Gundaroo, just 25 minutes from the heart of Canberra.
Marguerite spoke to us about why she loves working in the bridal industry, how proud she was to win a coveted NSW bridal award and her plans for the future...

• Tell us a little about your business…
We have a large range of over 100 bridal gowns for our brides to look at, we endeavour to make it a very special experience in finding your dream gown. We cater for ladies of all ages, sizes and from the fairy tale to simple bridal gown even colours if they want something different.

• What is your role in the business and why are you passionate about it?
I am the owner of Affordable bridal and love what I do, being a small part of making a brides dream come true is wonderful.

• How long have you been working in the industry?
We have been in the bridal industry for nearly 10 years.

• What is one of your favourite recollections from your business?
I have so many wonderful experiences, every thank you card and photo is safely tucked away and I love going through these to see our wonderful brides that we have helped over the past 9 years, Coming second in the New South Wales bridal awards was fantastic and a highlight especially considering we are a small intimate store and we were only beaten by 0.5% by one of the biggest stores in Sydney.

• Tell us a bit about your family and home life…
I have the great support of my husband of over 10 years and our 3 great kids.

• How do you enjoy spending your spare time?
I love the beach, any excuse will do to get there.
• What are your plans for the future?
We are hoping to move into designer and making our own brand of bridal - something unique and affordable.

Do you have any special offers you would like to share with our readers?
January and February are our sale months, so jump on our website often to see what sales are coming up, Our sales are becoming well known for saving $100s on a new bridal gown.

New Year's in the City - Canberra

Two prominent sites in the city will again play host to New Year's Eve celebrations, with a family-friendly concert in Civic Square, a dance party in Garema Place, and two fireworks displays at 9pm and midnight.

From 7.00pm, the main stage in Civic Square will be the place for families and music lovers of all ages to come along and enjoy performances by one of Australia's favourite bands, The Whitlams, and local Canberra bands, Who's Ya Daddy and Kiwi G. This is a great opportunity for parents to bring their children to Civic to enjoy the early fireworks.

From 9pm, Garema Place will again host Bass in the Place. New Year's Eve will rock to the beat of Australia's top DJs.

Local star Jared De Veer will get the party started, before Urban superstar DJ Samrai shows why he is Australia's top urban DJ. To kick off the new year dance legend Chris Fraser will be spinning the biggest dance hits of 2010.

One of Canberra's most state-of-the-art pyrotechnic displays will then top off the night, with the fireworks set to a soundtrack that will herald in the New Year.

Both the Civic Square and Garema Place events are alcohol-free to encourage a safe and friendly atmosphere. ACTION Buses will operate on a weekday timetable, with the Nightrider service also available.
