Kylie & Craig Goddard • 1st October, 2011
Kylie and Craig both worked in hospitality at the Australian National University. Craig used to visit the café where Kylie worked – to buy coffee and to have the opportunity to talk to her. Then one night at a Rogue Traders concert held at the ANU bar that Craig managed, the pair bumped into each other and discovered that the attraction was mutual. They’ve been together ever since.
Fast forward to one of Sydney’s annual Big Day Out festivals. Craig took Kylie to Sydney for the festival and phoned ahead to arrange accommodation, and a few other special details, at a city hotel.
The night before the festival started, the couple went out for a delightfully romantic dinner. Much to Kylie’s surprise, on returning to their hotel room, she opened the door onto a room full of candles, long stem red roses scattered across the bed and a bottle of Kylie’s favourite wine on the bedside table.
Craig then proposed to a stunned Kylie, who eventually managed to say yes. They were both so excited that they were shaking, making it hard for Craig to put a beautiful engagement ring on Kylie’s finger.
Purple, Kylie’s favourite colour, was one of their wedding day themes. Kylie’s bridesmaids chose purple dresses and carried purple flowers, while Craig and the page boy both wore purple ties.
Kylie looked gorgeous as her grandfather walked her down the aisle, and Craig admits to having fluttering butterflies in his stomach and having to hold back his tears as Kylie walked towards him. During an emotional ceremony the couple stood holding hands before being pronounced man and wife.
At Craig and Kylie’s reception, the newly married couple continued their colourful theme with delightful purple decorations and the addition of a roof canopy with fairy lights and purple ribbons, and chair covers with purple sashes. For their bomboniere, the couple chose pretty silver bells engraved with their names and wedding date. Each bell was decorated with a small purple bow.
Craig’s stepfather made a charming gift wishing well, while the couple’s delicious three tier chocolate and caramel mud cake decorated with lilies and roses and dusted with purple proved to be a big hit amongst the guests.
